The Visit:

My name is Paul Alford, and I first visited Malta in 1998 with a friend called Steve Hale (another notorious Hellraiser from my home town of Exeter, in Devon), the year before Ollie's death. In March and May 2000 I revisited the island to find The Pub, where Ollie died, and with my meagre website design skills, attempted to put together an Ollie Reed tribute site.

The pages you see here today were designed during that stay, although they have since been updated to make for easier reading. I would personally like to thank the following people for their assistance in getting this project off the ground.

Warren Cremona - The Pub - Valletta.

Without the help of Warren we would not have been able to construct this site.

Thanks also to Carmel for managing the emails and relaying messages.

Warren

Charlie Cordena

For telling a tale or two about Prince Andrew!

The drinks were on him as the quality of the photographs shows!

Charlie

Charles Saliba from the Cockney Bar down by the Valletta-Sliema ferry.

Thanks for your help Charles

And last but not least.......naturally....

The Spirit Of Ollie Reed!

If you want to know the story behind this, mail me for full details. This is NOT a hoax!

Others of note whom I do not have pics of include:

Giorgio The Marshall (I think that's the way it goes) for giving a lift to The Pub The owners of "La Stala" in Qawra for paying out on winning bets!
Maltese Joe of the Santa Maria hotel in St Pauls for his famous Irish coffee and friendship. We'll find that tattoo shop one day Joe! (Why is everybody called Joe anyway Joe?) The Irish fella in the Irish boozer down the steps in Paceville - fell up them a few times that's for sure....
The long-haired bloke in the Rock Bar behind the bar in Paceville - Great place. Keith from the Scottish bar in St Pauls - just one more Dry Blackthorn mate!
And last but not least The wonderful old geyser who looks after the cats on the quayside in Valletta.

-----------------No Thanks go to:---------------

The taxi driver who dropped us 5 miles from our hotel at 4 in the morning and drove off - nice one mate. No, on second thoughts, make that ALL taxi drivers who ripped us off during the trips - why stop most of the buses at 7pm Malta?

Airtours for being totally indifferent to the above matter and for their overall ignorant attitude. That's the first and last time we go Package Deal. If you are going to travel out of season to visit Malta, take a look on Lastminute.com where you can stay at the St Georges Apartments in Paceville for about six quid a night!

All in all though - thank you Malta for a great trip. We'll be back!

This site was originally designed in Room 469 of St Georges Apartments, Paceville, and in Room 21 of Huli Aparthotel, Qwara in March & May 2000, using a Toshiba laptop computer & images from a Fuji Digicam. If mistakes are evident it can only be blamed on the vast quantities of ale consumed during the visits.
